It's definitely scary to leave those holes. There's an underlying fear others will judge us as inadequate - unless we're secure in our values and our value to God. And when people bring their concerns about the ways we're "failing the program", it's also tough to recognize them as potential leaders - they look more like critics and complainers. I call this style Messy Leadership. I think it's right up there with Servant Leadership, but I can't find it listed in any of the Leadership classics Dan put in the CREST curriculum.
Thanks for your encouragement Shawn!

The section 'Encourage Development' really struck a cord with me. One of my greatest frustrations is watching people WHO SHOULD BE LEADERS swish the opportunities to engage others by doing the task themselves! I / we need to risk 'leaving a hole open' in order to let others 'fill it in'.
Well written!

LOL! It's a privilege to do the CREST journey with you, Jeff. If you implement what we show you in CREST, you will learn the rhythm of recovery. It will serve you well the rest of your life.

I asked the same question "What do I want to do/be when I grow up?", and thought there was something wrong with me that I hadn't yet figured this out. I believed I was spiritually defective because I hadn't learned "the secret of contentment in all things". I viewed mid-life crisis as a form of temporary insanity - the explanation for red convertibles and other lapses in judgment. Since it seems to be wired into our design, it makes more sense to listen to God in it. I think Dan was the first person to tell me I was normal (come to think of it, maybe the last too). Glad I went to CREST and kept the old Honda Civic!

Mark, you are smack in the throes of midlife! It's not abnormal to feel this way; everyone at midlife feels these things in one degree or another. The challenge is sorting through it all -- and that's where CREST provides an ordered reflection to step you through this journey. Midlife can be disorienting and confusing, and consequently paralyzing as we wait for something to come clear. Unfortunately, doing nothing is not likely to produce the outcome you yearn for; 75% of people at midlife end up flat-lined or floundering (more on this here: http://crestleadership.ca/why-crest/the-issue/). You must engage the confusion; so come join us in a CREST journey where you can work through this with others.

Great words, Dan. I have a tendency of trying to fit too much into one life, which means that if I live according to my natural inclination I am not going to last for the long haul. I am having some of those same feelings that you described, but I'm not at the place where I can take a sabbatical or an extended rest. Consequently, I am going to have to learn to take some recovery time along the way, like you taught us in our Crest classes.

Thanks for the reminder. I always ask myself, "What would Dan and Larry say about this?" WWDLSAT I may make some bracelets and market them. :)

The question is what do I do and how do I get there now with all that I have been through? What does God expect of me and where do I even begin to start?? I know I have these leadership skills but where do they belong and how will I know?? In order to be able to even slow down to be able to think about these things one needs money which in the natural seems to be in short supply these days obviously the well must be drying up for me to move to the breakthrough which is where?? Trust God they say He has it under control in the meantime what about these feelings, just pray and ask for his divine Grace on your life each day hopefully the peace will be there while I wait............

It's ironic this question comes up again at midlife -- what do I really want to do and be? One reason (among many others) is that at midlife we are beginning to realize that life is half over, and we don't have forever. If we are going to do/be what we really, deep down, yearn for, we are going to have to get on it -- soon. This mid-life urgency prompts reflection.

The question, "What do you want to do when you grow up?" is one usually asked only of small children. Interesting how often those of us at mid-life wrestle with the same question! This post, and indeed the heart of Crest Leadership, provides a wonderful opportunity for mid-life leaders to wrestle with this question, and ultimately to discover answers!
